Bear Stories & Other Updates*
Okay, so apparently I need
to change this page too. I could post stories about our
potty training challenges. But for tonight I'll keep it
short and simple. Over the summer I decided to try and
potty train JT. He was all for it for about a week. I think
during that week he went poopy in the potty once, never
peed. After a while and after many people telling me not to
force it, I gave up and put him back in diapers. This Fall
he showed interest again... we tried again. No go. This
time I kept him in Pull-Ups and didn't go back to diapers.
No amount of bribery was going to change his mind. He just
simply was not ready.
Then I found a preschool that would take him even though he
wasn't potty trained. The teacher had 30 years experience
potty training kids so I decided that was a good match for
us. I love the teacher and JT loves going to school. Some
mornings he doesn't really want me to leave, but then by
lunch when I go to pick him up he's never in a hurry to
come home. But I digress... after only being in preschool
for a week he came home and told me that he was going to
wear underwear the next day. We didn't have any plans so I
agreed. He had several accidents. In the past after the
first accident he would have wanted his Pull-Ups back. This
time he kept trying. The next day he was back in Pull-Ups,
but he kept trying to use the potty. After just a few days
he was really getting the hang of it and I think it only
took a week before he was staying dry. He had a couple
accidents on the potty (peeing on his lap instead of in the
bowl) but we quickly learned how to fix that problem. More
or less he potty trained himself this time. He decided it
was time and he didn't like being wet any more. In the last
12 days he hasn't had a single accident and today he wore
underwear all day for the first time, including at
preschool. The only problem we've had has been some
constipation issues, but I won't go into that here. He just
needs to drink more juice and cut the dairy out of his diet
completely and hopefully all will turn out fine. *knock on
